The short version
Commercial use requires a license — $19 per developer, per month. If Devscriptor or Juggler is used in the course of a business — on company code, for paid client work, or inside a commercial product — that use needs seats.
There is nothing to activate. The binaries are byte-identical whether or not you have bought a license. No key, no check, no phone-home. We trust you to buy the seats you use.
Individual and non-commercial use stays free. Permanently. Personal projects, learning, side projects, open-source work — nothing to buy and nothing to declare.
What counts as a seat
One seat per person who uses Devscriptor or Juggler for commercial work in a given month. That is the whole rule.
Seats are counted per person, not per machine, per repository, or per process. Laptops, desktops, dev containers, remote boxes, CI runners, and build agents are all unlimited and free — a developer with a seat can run the tools anywhere. Someone who only touches the output, and never runs the tools, does not need a seat.
Team size changed? Adjust the quantity in your Polar customer portal. No need to tell us.
Why there is no license key
Devscriptor's central promise is that scanning, indexing, and search make no network calls. You do not have to take that on faith — you can watch for yourself:
strace -e trace=network devscriptor scanEnforcing a license would break exactly that. An activation check is a phone-home. A seat count is telemetry. We would be shipping both to paying customers, and only to paying customers — the free version would stay clean while the commercial one grew a vendor callback. That is precisely backwards.
So we do not do it. The license is a legal agreement, not a technical lock. You are trusted to buy the seats you use, and in exchange the software inside your build pipeline has nothing in it that talks to us.
This is also why there is no trial timer, no offline grace period to keep track of, and nothing that fails when a CI runner has no outbound internet. There is no licensing subsystem, so there is no licensing subsystem to go wrong. See Security & Privacy for the full network picture.

Covers your organization for the number of seats you buy — every developer, every machine, every repository, every branch.
An invoice your finance team can file
Issued by Polar, our merchant of record. VAT and sales tax are calculated, collected, and itemized for your jurisdiction. Add your company name and VAT number at checkout.
Nothing to deploy
No license key to distribute, no activation step in your provisioning scripts, no seat server to reach from a locked-down network. There is nothing to install and nothing that can expire mid-sprint.
No account on our side
We do not create a user record, a dashboard, or a tenant for you. Billing lives with Polar; we hold nothing that can leak.
If you stop paying
Nothing breaks — there is no switch for us to flip. Cancelling ends the license going forward; it does not reach backwards. The period you paid for stays licensed permanently, so a lapsed subscription never turns your past use into a breach. If you stop commercial use, stop paying. If you pick it back up later, start again.
For procurement and security review
